Terms & Conditions

The rules for using Compass. Written to be read, not skimmed past. Using the platform means agreeing to them.

Last updated 31 July 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Compass Inc ("Compass", "we", "us") covering compasss.xyz, the Compass web app at app.compasss.xyz, and the Compass mobile app.

Compass is a travel platform: planning, stays, activities, the travelers around you and the money you spend together. These terms set out what we owe you, what you agree to, and where the limits sit.

Agreement to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Compass Inc ("Compass", "we", "us"). They cover the Compass website, web app, mobile apps and everything we offer through them, together the "platform".

By creating an account, joining the waitlist, installing the app or using any part of the platform, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use Compass.

If you use Compass on behalf of a company, group or organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for them, and "you" means that organisation.

What Compass is

Compass is a travel platform. It helps you plan journeys, discover destinations, stays and activities, coordinate with the people you travel with, and keep track of shared costs.

Compass is a tool for organising travel. We are not a travel agent, tour operator, accommodation provider, transport provider, insurer, bank or payment institution. Where you book or pay for something, that transaction is between you and the provider or the payment service involved, not with us.

Early access

Compass is in early access. Parts of the platform are incomplete, experimental, or offered to a limited group of users while we build.

This means, in practice:

  • Features may change, move or be removed without notice.
  • Access may be invite-based, capacity-limited or paused.
  • Data may occasionally be lost or reset, so keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
  • Early access is provided free of charge, and we may introduce paid plans in future with notice.

Your account

You need an account to use most of Compass. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, and able to enter into a binding contract.

Keep your login details private. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us straight away at hi@compasss.xyz if you think someone else has access to it.

The information you give us should be accurate and kept up to date. We may suspend or close accounts that use false details or belong to someone impersonating another person.

AI plans and recommendations

Compass uses AI to generate itineraries, routes, timings, budgets and suggestions. These are drafts, not advice. AI output can be wrong, outdated or confidently mistaken.

Before you rely on anything Compass generates, check it yourself. That especially applies to:

  • Visas, permits, border rules and entry requirements.
  • Health, vaccination and insurance requirements.
  • Safety conditions, weather, terrain and local restrictions.
  • Opening hours, seasonal closures, prices and availability.
  • Travel times, transport connections and anything with a deadline attached.

Bookings and third-party providers

Compass surfaces stays, activities, experiences and other services from third parties. When you book one, you enter into a contract with that provider, on their terms, not ours.

The provider is responsible for delivering what you booked, and for their own cancellations, refunds, changes and disputes. We do not guarantee the accuracy of provider listings, prices, photos or availability, and we are not a party to your booking.

The platform also links to third-party sites and services. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, terms or privacy practices.

Groups and shared expenses

Compass lets you plan with other people and track what a trip costs across a group. The expense tools are a record-keeping and calculation aid. They are not a payment service.

Compass does not hold, transfer or settle money between users. Balances shown in the app are a summary of what you and the people you travel with have entered. Settling up happens between you, outside the platform.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the amounts you log and for resolving any disagreement about them within your group. We cannot arbitrate, reverse or enforce anything between travellers.

When you add someone to a shared journey, the parts of that journey you share become visible to them. Only add people you are comfortable sharing that information with.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you put into Compass: journeys, photos, reviews, notes, posts and anything else.

By posting content to a public or shared part of the platform, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt and display it for the purpose of operating, improving and promoting Compass. This licence ends when you delete the content, other than for copies already shared with other users and for reasonable backups.

You confirm you have the rights to whatever you post, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights. We may remove content that breaks these terms, and we may do so without notice where the content is harmful or unlawful.

Acceptable use

Use Compass for planning and taking trips. Do not use it for anything on this list:

  • Breaking the law, or helping anyone else do so.
  • Harassing, threatening, stalking or endangering another person, on or off the platform.
  • Posting content that is unlawful, hateful, deceptive, sexually explicit or infringing.
  • Misrepresenting who you are, or creating accounts to evade a suspension.
  • Scraping, crawling or bulk-extracting platform data, or using it to train machine-learning models.
  • Reverse engineering the platform, or probing, scanning or testing its security without written permission.
  • Interfering with the platform's operation, or with anyone else's use of it.
  • Reselling, sublicensing or commercially exploiting any part of Compass without our written permission.

Meeting other travellers

Compass can show you other travellers nearby and activities you can join. Taking part is your choice and your risk.

We do not verify the identity, background or intentions of anyone on the platform, and we do not vet the activities people organise. Use ordinary judgement: meet in public first, tell someone where you are going, and step away from anything that feels wrong.

You control what you share. Location and presence features are opt-in and can be turned off at any time.

Our intellectual property

The platform, and everything in it other than user content and third-party material, belongs to Compass Inc or its licensors. That includes the software, design, text, editorial curation, brand and logos.

We grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the platform for your own travel planning, subject to these terms. Nothing here transfers ownership of anything to you.

Privacy

We collect and use personal data to run the platform. Your journeys and travel data are yours: encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold, and exportable or deletable on request.

Email hi@compasss.xyz to request an export or deletion of your data, or with any question about how we handle it.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep Compass running, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. The platform may be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control.

We may add, change, limit or discontinue features at any time. If we discontinue the platform altogether, we will give reasonable notice and a way to export your data where we can.

Disclaimers

The platform is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, accuracy and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the platform will meet your requirements, that its content or AI output will be accurate or complete, or that defects will be corrected.

Travel carries risk. You are responsible for your own safety, your documents, your insurance and your decisions on the road.

Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Compass is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost bookings, missed connections or wasted travel costs, however caused.

Our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the platform is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred United States dollars (USD 100).

These limits apply even if we have been advised of the possibility of the loss, and they survive termination of your account.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Compass Inc, its officers, employees and partners against any claim, loss, liability or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the platform, your content, your dealings with other users or providers, or your breach of these terms or of any law.

Suspension and termination

You can stop using Compass and delete your account at any time.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe your use puts other users, providers or the platform at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.

On termination, your licence to use the platform ends. Sections that by their nature should survive, including content licences already granted, disclaimers, liability limits and indemnities, continue to apply.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the platform develops. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and we will give reasonable notice of material changes by email or in the app.

Continuing to use Compass after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the platform and close your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION TO BE CONFIRMED], and the courts of [JURISDICTION TO BE CONFIRMED] have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protection of any mandatory law of the country where you live.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. A delay in enforcing any right is not a waiver of it. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the platform.

Questions about these terms

Some of this may not apply to how you use Compass. Ask us and a person will explain it in plain language.
