Information we collect
We collect three kinds of information: what you give us, what we record automatically as you use Compass, and what we receive from services you connect.
What you give us
- Account details: your name, email address, password (stored hashed, never in plain text) and anything you add to your profile such as a photo, home city or travel preferences.
- Journey content: destinations, dates, itineraries, saved places, bookings and notes you add to a plan.
- Group and social content: the groups you join, travelers you connect with, messages you send through Compass and anything you publish to the travel feed.
- Expense data: amounts, currencies, categories and who a cost is split between, so the platform can work out who owes what.
- Anything you send us directly: early access requests, support questions, partnership enquiries and email to hi@compasss.xyz.
What we collect automatically
- Device and log data: IP address, browser and operating system, device type, referring page, the pages or screens you open, timestamps, and crash and diagnostic reports.
- Location: only if you grant the permission, and only to power features that need it such as nearby activities and nearby travelers. You can withdraw it at any time in your device settings; the rest of Compass keeps working without it.
- Cookies and similar technologies, described in their own section below.
What we receive from others
- Sign-in providers, if you choose to sign in through one: typically your name, email address and profile photo. We never receive your password for those accounts.
- Stay, activity and booking partners: confirmations and reservation details for things you book through Compass.
- Analytics and infrastructure providers: aggregate usage and reliability data about the platform.
